Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 August 2026
By creating an account or using the Avalanche IQ app ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. The service
Avalanche IQ is an educational app that helps you practise avalanche-safety knowledge through questions, explanations and progress tracking. It is operated by Robert Pinsent, Switzerland.
2. Important — this is not professional training
The app is a learning tool only. It does not certify you, and nothing in it replaces:
- certified avalanche-safety courses and training,
- official local avalanche bulletins and forecasts, or
- your own judgement and the judgement of trained professionals in the field.
Always base real-world decisions on official bulletins, professional training and the conditions you observe. Avalanche IQ is not responsible for decisions made in the backcountry.
3. Accounts
- You must provide accurate account information (email, username, country flag).
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details secure.
- One account per person; don't share accounts or misuse others' accounts.
- Your username and flag are public (visible in the leaderboard).
4. Free tier
The app offers a free tier of daily questions. We may adjust daily limits, features or availability from time to time — we'll aim to keep the core experience free and will announce significant changes.
5. Subscriptions and purchases
Future paid features ("Pro") will be sold through the App Store and are subject to Apple's terms. Payments and renewals are handled by Apple; we don't process or store payment details.
6. Acceptable use
Don't misuse the app: no abusing other users, no attempts to break or probe the service, no automated scraping, no cheating the leaderboard or progress systems. We may suspend accounts that violate these rules.
7. Content and intellectual property
The app, its question bank, design and brand are our property or used with permission. You may use them for personal learning only — not copy, resell or redistribute them.
8. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. While we work hard to keep questions accurate and up to date, we don't guarantee completeness, accuracy or fitness for any purpose. Avalanche conditions and best practices evolve — always follow current official guidance.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the app — including, in particular, any decision made in the backcountry based on app content. You use the app at your own risk.
10. Termination
You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms.
11. Changes
We may update these terms as the service evolves. Continued use after changes means you accept them; significant changes will be announced in the app.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by Swiss law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts of the user's residence retain any rights they cannot waive under mandatory consumer law.
